Fiber Arts Friday ~ Painted Ladies

How many of you use those pure white styrofoam heads to either display or take pictures of your beautiful handmade products?  As my last post shows......I sure do.  The stark whiteness of these heads have been bothering me for quite a while........they actually kind of creep me out.  So I decided I would try to do something to make them more pleasing to the eye, at least to my eyes.

My first head transformed into a art deco-ish, fantasy creation........

Then I wondered if they could be painted.  After a bit of research I found a product that seals the styrofoam so the paint will adhere to it.  I really like how this one worked out.

I must admit, I love transforming these plain white forms into lovely, stylish ladies.  No more scary, crazy looking white heads for this girl.  I'm on a mission!

Happy Fiber Arts Friday!!

I whipped up this pair for my granddaughter using 2 strands of worsted.

  1. Oh yes, much, much better than the white heads! I saw some in one of my LYSs recently that had been felted, which was also quite cool.

  2. Those turned out really cool, the first one looks quite textured. You really transformed that stark white Styrofoam.

  5. Hats are great ... but you rocked the styrofoam in the second one! I can't wait to see more of them. I also didn't realize one needed to "seal" the styrofoam prior to painting. Very intriguing!

  7. What an awesome idea! It changes everything, even the way the FO looks on it.

I need one of those heads ... I'm not sure where to get them, and I'm afraid my cats would claw it up.

  8. That's a great idea! I love the art deco-ish one. I've had people comment that my blue glass head was a bit weird. Perhaps she could use a little paint? Thank you for your inspiration.

  9. Awesome heads. If the yarn thing doesn't work out, maybe you could style hair?:)

  12. Cool hats, I am a fan of real people modeling, not just a head shot, but the whole body. This makes the photo more realistic and personal for a buyer. Cheers Marie
